The design of the ISO9001 system involves strict documentation designed to certify and define the minimum requirements that an organization’s quality management system must demonstrate to meet in order to ensure the level of product and service quality it claims to possess with itself and the marketplace. ISO9001 is a voluntary, non-mandatory standard. In some cases, certification is mandatory based on the corporate policy of clients, who require it for their suppliers, or in case of application for participation in certain public tenders.

The CE marking and the CE declaration of conformity, name a set of mandatory practices for all products for which there is in this regard at least one EU directive or regulation (called as a whole EU standards), which call for the application of a symbol with the letters “CE”, generally on the product subject to marking. It is carried out by the manufacturer of a regulated product in the European Union, who declares, by means of the declaration of conformity under his own responsibility, that the product complies with the safety requirements of the applicable EU directives or regulations. Also CE marking, involves strict and detailed documentation, also accompanied by technical tests with appropriate instrumentation, which apogeeLAB has in its laboratories. We can perform TESTS and documentation for CE marking, on automatic and semi-automatic industrial machines, and on electronic equipment, or assess whether the device to be certified is suitable for CE documentation, or not.

A patent is a title by virtue of which the owner is granted a temporary monopoly of exploitation, for a limited period of time, consisting of the exclusive right to make it, dispose of it and make commercial use of it, prohibiting such activities to other, unauthorized parties. There are two types of patents:

Patent for invention
Patent for utility model

The former, has a term of 20 years, starting from the date of filing the application and like all patents, cannot be renewed upon expiration. For example, the MOKA, which was invented by Alfonso Bialetti in the 1930s, and seat belts invented at Eng. Nils Bohlin in 1989 and then later patented by the car manufacturer VOLVO, are patents for invention.

Utility model patents are types of patents that exist in Italy and a few other states. These are normally granted, even in those states that provide substantive examination for inventions, without any type of examination and therefore are easier to obtain but more difficult to protect. It lasts for 10 years and is not renewable.
For example, the utility model is said to protect the form of a product that has its own specific technical functionality. A knife with a left-handed handle is a utility model.

UNI EN 1090 certification

UNI EN 1090 certification is a mandatory certification as of July 2014 for all manufacturers of steel and aluminum structural components, as well as manufacturers of kits placed on the market as a construction product. This type of certification is internationally recognized. A company’s ability to produce material that meets all the quality characteristics required by UNI EN 1090 Part 1, 2 and 3 standards is certified by a third party called a certification body.

UNI EN 1090 certification affects manufacturers of steel or aluminum structures (e.g., metalworkers) who will be obliged from July 1, 2014, to CE mark according to UNI EN 1090-1 (Execution of steel and aluminum structures).
Certification according to UNI EN 1090 allows construction products to be placed on the market within the EU. On July 1, 2013, European Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011 on Construction Products came into force, which introduces new features and obligations for companies operating in the Construction Products market and regulates the conditions for CE marking

Companies that will be required to be certified according to UNI EN 1090 are, for example, manufacturers of the following steel or aluminum components:

products in sections/profiles of various shapes
rolled products (plates, sheets, strips)
bars, forged from steel and aluminum, protected or not protected against corrosion by coatings or other surface treatments, e.g., aluminum anodizing
steel components used in steel-concrete composite structures

Accordingly, companies that:

process steel for prestressed concrete at their site (referred to as a “plant”)
fabricate metal structures to be laid in place once finished
fabricate parts of composite metal structures to be laid in place once finished
fabricate corrugated sheets
fabricate cold-formed profiles
fabricate structural elements
implement “pre-processing” of structural elements to be laid in place later
produce metal carpentry
produce bolts, nails and brackets

To be able to CE mark your structural steel and aluminum products and consequently be able to sell them within the European community and of course in Italy, you need to have a UNI EN 1090 certification. Once this is done, it is possible:

work abroad
participate in government procurement
be placed by clients within their first-choice supplier register

Certification according to UNI EN 1090 will be mandatory as of July 1, 2014 for all manufacturers of steel and aluminum structural components who intend to sell their product in Italy and Europe.
